Lane, M. (Maya)
Biography
Maya Lane (1992) is a Junior Researcher at the Meertens Institute where she focuses on the project ‘Caring for Pigs’, supervised by Dr. Rebeca Ibáñez Martín. Lane studied Medical Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Amsterdam. Projects she is involved in are ArtiC, an interdisciplinary working group exploring aesthetic interventions and care at the OLVG West, undertaking The Gramounce Alternative Masters in Food and Art where she is focusing on the echoes between planetary health and bodily health, queer ecologies, eating practices and care, as well as lecturing in Sociology at the University of Amsterdam.
Within her work, Lane finds it important to make academic knowledge as accessible as possible, and engages in feminist care practices throughout her research. Previously, she worked at Just for Kids Law in the UK as a youth advocate and educator where she engaged in supporting and advocating for marginalized young people, particularly young mothers and those on the child protection register.
