Research Data Management
Research data is data that has been used as a source for analysis, or data that has been collected in the context of research projects. Research data comes in various forms, for example:
- survey results,
- interviews,
- images,
- geographical data.
The Meertens Institute is committed to promoting Open Science in the humanities. This means that the data used in research must be:
- openly accessible, verifiable and reusable, and
- stored in a sustainable and secure manner.
Researchers can store their research data at the Meertens Institute. The Meertens Institute takes care of the sustainable archiving of the data. Data is stored according to the CoreTrustSeal guidelines.
Data management
In the field of research data management and collection management, the Meertens Institute collaborates with the data management group of the Huygens Institute. The data managers also offer hands-on support for research. They advise on data management plans (DMPs) and help with cleaning, systematising and storing datasets, as well as offering other practical support where possible. In addition, the department provides advice on questions about open (FAIR) data, user agreements and privacy legislation relating to research data.
Based on the view that data management is an integral part of scientific research, researchers are also supported in the implementation of national and international data management protocols: the data managers actively help researchers to draw up the data components in research applications and to apply DMPs.
Depositing and donating data
External researchers can deposit relevant datasets with the Meertens Institute or donate them to the institute. In doing so, the Meertens Institute enters into an agreement with the researcher.
