Biography

Manpreet Brar (b. 1993) is a Junior Researcher at the Meertens Institute. She studied cultural anthropology and development sociology at the University of Amsterdam. At the Meertens Institute she is involved in the research project INREACH, which is taking a critical look at the inclusiveness of the institute’s collections and collection methods. Using a visual-anthropological method, she is researching the lived experience of religious heritage, focusing on religious dynamics that are underrepresented in current archives. Before being appointed to her current position, she was a student assistant at the Meertens Institute, where she worked on her final project for her master’s in visual anthropology. In it she explored the dynamics between music, religion and culture, resulting in a film, Colored Frequencies (2023).
