Folktale Database of the Low Countries

The Folktale Database of the Low Countries contains more than 100,000 folktales (fairy tales, riddles, legends, myths, jokes, urban legends) from the Middle Ages to the present day. Each story includes metadata such as the place where it was told, the date of recording, the storyteller, and—if possible—the international catalogue number (the so-called ATU classification).

The Folktale Database was established in 1994 as the Dutch Folktale Database. In 2024, the database was enriched with stories from the Flemish Folktale Database, after which it continued under its new, current name.
