Martín Andrade-Pérez (1978) is a Guest Researcher at the Ethnology group of the Meertens Institute. He is also a researcher at the Erigaie Foundation in his home country Colombia; a guest lecturer at the Reinwardt Academy; an external PhD student at the University of Groningen and a facilitator of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. His main research focus is the relationship between intangible heritage and religion, critically looking at how the recognition of religious practices as cultural heritage is changing and redefining the borders between secularity and religion. As part of his work with UNESCO, Andrade-Pérez has also been engaged in addressing the impacts of armed conflicts and displacement on the cultural traditions of the communities, developing methodologies for safeguarding intangible heritage in these contexts.
