Kristel Doreleijers (b. 1993) is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Meertens Institute. She studied Dutch language and culture (BA), Dutch studies (MA), and Multilingualism and language acquisition (MA) at Utrecht University and completed her PhD research at Tilburg University in late 2023. In June 2024, she successfully defended her PhD thesis on variation in dialect use in North Brabant.
At the Meertens Institute, Kristel mainly focuses on youth language and language variation on social media. She is also committed to promoting linguistics within secondary education, for example through guest lectures, the website www.profielwerkstuktaalkunde.nl, and as an editor of the didactic handbook of WODN. As a Face of Science of the KNAW, Kristel also communicates about her research through blogs, public lectures, and media appearances.
