Engela de Villiers (1996) is Researcher Linguistics and Language Variation at the Meertens Institute. She studied BA Humanities at Stellenbosch University with majors in General Linguistics and French (2015-2017). She continued her studies in General Linguistics at Stellenbosch University and completed her BAHons in 2018 and her MA in 2019, focusing on the syntax of imperatives in Afrikaans. De Villiers started her PhD research in October 2020 and is doing a joint-PhD between KU Leuven and Stellenbosch University. She is doing research on imperatives within the project The grammar of imperatives and the imperatives of grammar under the supervision of Jeroen van Craenenbroeck and Theresa Biberauer.
