Ton van der Wouden (b. 1958) is a Linguistics and Language Variation Researcher at the Meertens Institute. He studied Dutch Language and Literature and Philosophy at Leiden University. In 1994 he received his PhD from the University of Groningen for a dissertation on multiple negation and polarity. His research interests include particles, negation and polarity, morphology, and language variation in Dutch. At the Meertens Institute he was involved in the Taalportaal (Language Portal (www.taalportaal.org)), a large scientific grammar of Dutch, Frisian and Afrikaans. He is currently focusing on describing the particles of Dutch. Previously, he collaborated on projects including the lexical database CELEX, the machine translation project EUROTRA and the Corpus Gesproken Nederlands (Corpus of Spoken Dutch). He is editor of the journal Taal en Tongval, (co-)organiser of the Morphology Days in the Low Countries, Dutch Grammar Day and the Germanic Sandwich, and a board member of the Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde (Dutch Literary Society).
